  • Oklahoma County, OK
There's definitely a rejuvenation of downtown Edmond going on lately. With new coffee shops, restaurants, co-working spaces, and boutique stores popping up all the time, all generations of Edmondites are enjoying spending their days and now nights enjoying the downtown living that once began the entire city. The Downtown Edmond Business Association does a tremendous job hosting festivals such as Edmond Art's Festival, Crazy Dayz, and the downtown historic ghost tours.

Edmond's Heard on Hurd was one of the first food-truck festivals made popular in the Oklahoma City area and each year attracts more and more street fairs. Citizen's Bank always decorates Broadway in beautiful Christmas lights each year and local businesses compete to create the most hilarious scarecrows in the fall time. It's like a small Stars Hollow from the Gilmore Girls meets up and coming jazz fest.

Decided to take a day and went down to the Wheeler District off of I-40 south of downtown Oklahoma City and ride the Ferris wheel. It takes you nine stories up and you can get an amazing view of the heart of the original south Oklahoma City. I felt like a kid again soaring above the river.

This district is going to be a home for new events, housing, and restaurants. Blair Humphrey is the developer of this district which is truly going to boost the South Oklahoma City area. The Ferris Wheel ride has a minimal cost but it is well worth the time and dollars.

  • Here's a few of the things I got to sample in this Oklahoma City area mainstay for fun and relaxation. I rode the Jupiter Train and it was a blast! I spent some time at the animal farm they have there at Orr and loved on some sweet animals. Have you ever rode a 'zip line'? Well..they have that too at the Orr Family Farm here in South Oklahoma City. Don't forget to munch down on the Kettle Corn and then hit that Orr lemonade stand...can't wait to visit here again...it's perfect for spring and summer fun!
  • I spent part of the weekend exploring Downtown OKC Homes and Urban Living. Loved it!
Did you get a chance to take part in the Downtown OKC Home Tour this past weekend? Living in Downtown, Midtown and the Bricktown area is becoming highly desirable for residents of OKC. Lofts, townhomes and condos and exciting new developments are making work and play in the downtown areas of Oklahoma City a reality!

If you enjoy walking and biking around more than driving, then you might want to check out what our OKC urban living evangelists have to say about it. View the video below to get a first-hand report on what it's like to establish a home and lifestyle in our Oklahoma City Downtown living areas. I really enjoyed this tour!

Here's a few of the stops that were made and living areas viewed by me and my companions on this wonderful Downtown Home Tour.
*The Marion, 110 NW 10, built in 1901, rehab architect David Kraszewski, builder Lingo Construction. The Marion functioned as a hotel for many, many years until it was closed in the mid-1980s. It sat vacant until developers took advantage of moving OKC forward. This was one of my favorites on the tour.
*The Metropolitan, 800 N Oklahoma Ave., off Automobile Alley, built in 2016, architect Lord Aeck and Sargent Inc. The Metropolitan is nestled in the most vibrant area in Oklahoma City. The fusion of modern design, location and technology, all with an urban twist.
*The Edge, 1325 N Walker Ave. 250-unit mixed-use community. A rooftop dog park, the rooftop terrace and a lobby resembling an upscale hotel lounge. The community also boasts 7,500 square feet of retail and welcomes Organic Squeeze Kitchen Table.
*The Haven, 601 Robert S. Kerr Ave. Large, contemporary apartments and enchanting gardens provide a home away from home. Right outside are some of Oklahoma City's best entertainment choices.

I had a great time...enjoyed it and learned much about options for my clients who desire a Downtown urban lifestyle choice and I will definitely be showing these properties to my clients who desire and appreciate urban living!
  • Didn't know that Oklahoma City has a 'Banjo Museum'? It's a special place to visit if you are in Bricktown and very unique to our OKC area. If you love banjo music and you remember how much fun it was to watch Steve Martin (the comedian and one who loved to use a banjo for a stage prop for his skits) then you will find this news about our American Banjo Museum of interest. Take some time to learn about this unique OKC venue. Visit the link below to learn more about Steve Martin's contributions to this piece of American history. When you're in the OKC area, don't forget to check out the great dining options in Downtown and Bricktown!
  • My Top Picks in BBQ Heaven in our OKC community:

Whether you want it smoked, braised, grilled, rubbed and smotherd with delicious sauce or dry as a bone, the best BBQ is what you are used to eating most of your life. However, if you are new to the Oklahoma area, then I have some great insight and suggestions on some great BBQ restaurants that you might want to check out the next time you feel a need to indulge in BBQ nirvana.

    * Van's Pig Stand in Norman, Oklahoma:
If you drive up to this place in Norman, it looks like an old service gas station. That's because at one time in our history, it was. Its claim to fame is the smoky and spicy BBQ sauce! I also recommend the 'curly fries' as a side of choice when you order your meal here. You won't be disappointed!

    * Iron Starr Urban Bar-B-Q in Oklahoma City:
The décor is upscale cowboy with a copper-hammered bar, dark wood floors and studded leather booths. The food is decidedly delicious! When they bring out the hot towels and the lemon wedge with your BBQ meal, you know that you are dealing with some messy ribs and that's what makes this place so divine! The sides are also something to write home about. Choose from fried okra, fancy mac and cheese, seared green beans and Dutch oven sweet potatoes. Love the location in a very hip area of OKC. You can't miss the mark with Iron Starr BBQ!

    * Leo's Barbeque in Oklahoma City:
This BBQ joint was featured on the Food Network's popular TV show 'Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives' with Guy Fieri! Want some ribs, thick-cut bologna, chopped beef and hot links paired with two sides? That's what's for dinner when you drop into this amazing OKC BBQ joint! And if you're still hungry after a meal like this....well, you get a complimentary slice of their famous strawberry-banana cake. This place is 'Old School' when it comes to quality, classic BBQ. You won't forget your meal at Leo's!

Care to add to my list? Please contact me and share your thoughts and ideas on the best BBQ joints in OKC and the surrounding area. I love sharing all of this dining and local fun information with my clients and would appreciate hearing your suggestions on BBQ and beyond!
